Addictions can be difficult to overcome, but every single person has the ability to overcome any and all addictions. After all, addictions don’t happen overnight. We get pulled into them slowly. They tend to creep up on us, and it requires some repetition of thought to get into the patterns that lead to addiction.
But the funny thing is that once we recognize an addiction, we start self-sabotaging ourselves with negative self talk instead of positive self-talk. We erringly program our subconscious minds to engage in negative behavior, and then when we find it difficult to stop the negative addictive behavior, we beat ourselves up for doing so. It becomes a vicious negative cycle.
The key to overcoming addictions is two-fold. The first key is to believe that it is possible to overcome it. The second key is to overcome all of the negative self talk that keeps us in a downward spiral, a negative cycle. If we can keep giving ourselves positive reinforcement, every addiction can be overcome eventually.
