Detoxification as a form of holistic medicine really began as fasting or abstaining from all food and drink except water for a period of time to clean the body. The problem with this is that while it’s good to clean the toxins from your body, fasting can deprive the body of many essential nutrients. Also, because most toxins and bodily invaders are fat soluble and stored in the fat cells, starvation actually does very little to remove these toxins from the body.
