What is Happiness and How to Get More of It?

Hi Everyone,

The topic of this article has been written and spoken about so many times that you would think that you need a secret key to unlock it.

I am talking about happiness or more specifically how to obtain it.

What does happiness mean to you?

According to success coach Tony Robbins all humans beings look for two things:
1) The attainment of pleasure
2) The avoidance of pain

We live in a world where everyone is “chasing” happiness. Everyone is
“looking” for happiness.

We think that we will be happy when we get the latest car or a bigger house.
Some of us think we will be happy next year when we take our vacation.

Here is what I have learnt: Happiness Is A Choice.

That’s right; you can choose to be happy. Grandma was right when she said, “If
life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”

It’s true that things happen in life that annoy us, make us sad or just make us
mad.

How you react to those situations is what is important. In any instant you can
CHOOSE to be happy. You can change your focus from what is wrong in the world
to what is right in your life.

So anytime you feel your emotional sniffles coming on, do something that makes
you happy. Think happy thoughts. Call a long lost friend. Spend time with
loved ones. Do anything that makes you happy.

Take a look at little children.

They will find any excuse to laugh, giggle and be happy. Find happy child in you.

And you will realise that Happiness is a choice.

Happiness And Employee Productivity

34 year old Jamima is a PR manager working with a high profile IT Company. She loved her job and enjoyed the challenges that awaited her every work day. However, with business growing and work pressure increasing, Jamima found that she did not have enough time to meet all her targets. She began to work late, take work home and work on the weekends. Even then, she was floundering. It didn’t take her long to realize that she could not carry on the same way without going to pieces. After some thought, she decided to collect a number of productivity tools to boost her productivity and help her with time management. Sure enough, the tools helped! Jamima found that her productivity had increased. However, she was still unable to find the same happiness that she once did. That set her thinking. To her surprise, she discovered that there were several small parts of her job that she positively hated doing. So, she had a talk with her boss and it was decided that some of these odd jobs would be handed over to a secretary. Jamima would take on more liaison work, work which gave her more happiness. A month after the change was made, Jamima was back to being her best, enjoying what she did and getting home in time to catch her favorite Soap on TV!

In Search of True Happiness

Through the years, most everyone I’ve talked to either wishes for or is actively searching for more happiness, peace and contentment. These wishes and searches can take many forms.

I’m sure most of us have experienced a time in our lives when we were convinced that if a certain event happened, whatever it might be, we just knew that we would be happy forever. We were confident that this event was the key to our lifelong happiness, contentment and peace. This particular occasion may have actually come to pass and we may have been happy, at least for a while. Then as time went by, we no longer felt consistently happier, more content or more peaceful. The question is why. If anything, this shows that we can see that this kind of happiness, based on outside circumstances, is fleeting. That is the nature of life.

Where To Find Happy People!

Happy people are found taking their children or grandchildren to
the park. You’ll see them pushing the kids on the swings, and
kicking a football back and forward.

You’ll find happy people with their family, preparing a picnic
lunch by the lake, and throwing bread to the ducks and geese.

You’ll see happy people every day working in their garden,
enjoying the satisfaction of creating a miracle of colour and
fragrance.

You will find happy people playing a violin. You’ll find them
performing at their piano recital. You’ll find them playing a
guitar or belting on the drums, in their garage with their
friends, dreaming of the day their band is the greatest in the
world.

You’ll find happy people learning tai-chi in the park before
work each morning.

You’ll find happy people signing in the choir. And even in the
shower, singing their favourite tunes. Anywhere you find
singing, you’ll find happy people.
