Depressed? – The Way To Happiness Lies With You!

Many of us are searching for the way to happiness in our lives and many of us search for this illusive, alien thing and never find it.We all dream of it when we are young, and then give up on ever finding it when we grow old and when life has taken its toll on us.

We die upset with ourselves, full of unfulfilled dreams and regrets about our lives. Sadness may be all we seem to experience. But that need not be the case. The thing is where are we seeking happiness in the first place.

If our search for happiness is in the outside world, we may never find it.

All things, jobs, roles, people are only temporary. They will all pass with time, but most of us do not want to acknowledge that. We believe things will “last forever” and are disappointed when they do not; then, when things change in our lives, any happy feelings or memories seem to be put on a back burner.

Happiness Is Felt in the Moment, Not Something to Strive Towards

How many people do you know who are clearly discontented? Their body language shouts out the fact that they just aren’t happy with their lot; they talk about being happy when such and such finally happens. Do you feel this way yourself?

We live in a very pressurized world; a lot is expected of us and we expect a lot of ourselves. It seems that to not want “more” makes you stand apart from the norm and creates an additional fear of being left behind. It’s almost as if we all have to want more and more or else we are not aligned with the world around us.

Social approval is something which we all instinctively seek. We like to be liked; we need others to approve of us. And so even if you do not really want “more”, the fact that the majority of others around us do want more, means that we are pressurized to align with them so as to satisfy our own need for approval.

The Commandments Will Teach Our Children How to Be Happy

If Children Learn To Live The Commandments They Will Be Happy

At the Special Olympics several of the children were in a race. The gun went off and they each started running. Before long, one of the little girl’s fell down. When the other children saw that she had fallen, they turned around and ran back to her. They all helped her up and held hands and ran across the finish line, together.

In another race, the gun went off all and the children started to run.  When one of the boys got to the finish line, he stopped and let his friend Johnny pass him and win the race. When they asked him why he did that, he said: “I already have a metal but Johnny doesn’t and he needs a metal too, so I let him go first!

How were these children like Jesus?

The State of Happiness

Happiness is often thought of as a state of mind. This assumption is both right and wrong. It is right because when you are happy, you usually have happy thoughts in your mind. You have a positive outlook and your mood is generally elevated. Your outlook on life is one of hope and abundance.

I started by saying the assumption that happiness is a state of mind is both right and wrong. How can it be wrong? If it were just a state of mind, you should be able to will yourself happy at anytime? You should be able to go through life with an eternal smile upon your face, just by willing yourself to be that way. Logically, this does not make sense.
