Internal medicine doctors primarily work with adult patients and working with medicines for the adults. They do work with medical specialists, medical surgeons, and also with pediatricians. Intrernal medicine doctors also work with their patients and educate them about their overall health and well-being. They advise their patients on mental well-being, substance abuse, women’s health, and on preventive measures to name some examples. The internal medicine doctor tries to find the disease before it can get any worse and most times it can be found without the patient even knowing it exits. Some chronic conditions may appear such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disease, depression, anxiety, obesity and countless other conditions.
Internal medicine doctors may further specialize in the other areas in internal medicine. There is thirteen subspecialize in a fellowship. These sub specialities are gastroenterology, cardiology, adolescent medicine, rheumatology, and oncology.
