Times have changed drastically and gone are the days, when the word stress was never heard of. In our 21st century lifestyle, stress is a very common word. Even children undergo stress in today’s lifestyle. Stress to some extent is good as it stimulates us to face challenges at work and home, but if stress crosses manageable boundaries, then it is time to wake up and take action. Stress is not only emotional, but also physical.

If you feel anxious all the time, loose sleep, have digestive problems, or are gaining weight, it might be most probably stress playing havoc on your body. Stress management has become very important in everybody’s life.

Identify the Source of Stress:

The first most important step in stress management is the identification of its source. Thought it is very easily said than done, but you need to take out some time ask yourself the following questions:

Do you take up too much in your hands?

Is the stress temporary or constant?

Do you finish your work on time or always run after your deadlines?

Has any life transforming event (like death, financial loss, etc) taken place in your life recently?

Evaluate your answers and you might be able to pinpoint the reason for your stress.

You can also maintain a written record of the day, time, the reason, and the details of the stress attack. Do this for a week and you will be able to pinpoint the reasons and find a way to deal with it.

Learn to Say ‘NO’

In our zeal to do our best, we sometimes forget the magical word ‘No’. Know your limits and capacity and stick to it, whether in your professional or personal time. If you feel it is not possible for you, say ‘NO’. It is always better to do the manageable than to end up with stress and anxiety attack.

Accept the Things that Cannot be Changed

There are always few things in our environment that we cannot change. For example, we cannot change the fact that there are only 24 hrs in a day. There are always things which will be beyond our control. Stressing over these uncontrollable situations will not help you in any way. Always try and see the positive side of your situations and turn them into means of your personal growth. If you feel too much burdened with your situation, talk to your friends and loved ones.

Take out Time for Fun and Relaxation

In today’s hectic schedule we have forgotten to laugh, smile, and have fun. It is very necessary that we take out time to relax and have fun. Weekends are just perfect for this. Do your favorite things over the weekend. Read a good book, go for a massage, spend some time on your hobby, or spend time with your kids or pets.

Apart from weekends, it is also very important to unwind and relax at the end of each day. The best way is to play with your pet, take a long bath, watch your favorite movie etc.

Track your Diet

Proper and healthy diet is the key to prepare our bodies to cope with everyday stress. Always remember to eat a healthy and balanced diet. Include lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains in your diet. Avoid too much of fatty foods and sugar. Start your day with a proper breakfast and have nutritious meals throughout the day.

Exercise

Regular exercise is a must as it keeps your body and mind ready to take on the day’s challenge. A 30-minute exercise thrice a week is enough to keep you fit physically and mentally.

Infertility can bring about different emotional response in a person. For a couple, this means infertility stress. It is believed by some but yet to be medically proven that infertility and stress are interchangeable, one would affect the other.

If you are infertile, you get stressed. Or if you are stressed, you become infertile.

Why do infertile couples get stressed? During visits to infertility clinics, they are often bombarded with a series of tests and those can only increase their worry in trying to conceive. The waiting period is also another situation that makes it the more tense. The results may or may not be what they expected.

If it is good then they can breathe a sigh of relief. If the result is bad, another burden is placed on their shoulders like to try again or take further tests.

Aside from monetary implications, infertility stress can also have a physical effect on the couple. The man might find it difficult to perform because there are too many things on his mind or the woman might not be in the mood to try and make love. A low sperm count is also noted to be present when it is stressful for the man and the woman sometimes fail to ovulate and skip her period.

These instances could lead to lower their chances of a successful conception.

A solution to assist the infertile couple is to take stress management classes. A facilitator can guide them on how to remove stress from their life, particularly in their bedroom. Taking stress out of the equation can be an advantage and hopefully increase the couple’s chances in pregnancy.

It is just right to bear in mind that leading a stress-free life can result to a healthier outlook and state for a person. For couples undergoing fertility treatments, erasing infertility stress can make the couple’s bond stronger and possibly turn procedural results into positive marks and increase chances of conception.

When you are struggling to manage your time, it may seem counterproductive to then spend your time playing a game on internet. But what if the game you were playing is actually a time management game.

Do you believe it? Well, simply type time management games into any search engine and you will see that it brings up thousands of options.

Clearly these games are popular. Yet does anyone actually know what they do or whether they work?

Time management games are all about you managing your time virtually. Many people who struggle with managing their time in their real life can begin to address their issues in the virtual world.

The first step in the process of addressing any time management issues that you may have is to recognise that you do struggle with certain aspects.

If you are frequently late to work or visiting friends, if you miss deadlines and struggle to keep to any set time frame, it may well be that you would benefit from boosting your management skills.

Time management skills are skills that you are not born with and so you have to work on them. Don’t feel inadequate or bad about this. You know that it could do a little bit of work to improve it and it won’t be a tedious journey thanks to time management games.

These games are great fun and can come in a whole variety of styles. So which ones are the best ones for you? Simply choose the ones that are interesting to you.

If you interested in cars, then play a time management game that is all about cars. This should help to keep your interest and allow you to improve your time management skills to boot.

A few things to remember about time management games:

There are many different types of games now on the internet. Some are free and some only allow you to trial the game for free. Check them out and find one that has all of the skills on offer that you feel you feel you need to work on.

Even if one appears to be great ad has all of the objects that you are interested in encased within the game, check that it also has the actual skills that you need.

If you are considering purchasing a time management game either for yourself or your company, ensure that you have checked out all the free ones available. This may take a little bit of time and research, but if could save you money and be just as informative as ones that cost you a great deal.

Make sure that you do schedule your gaming into your daily routine and that they do not take over time that needs to be dedicated to other tasks – such as work!

Learning the skill like this is more fun than other ways and a great way to address your time management needs in a fun and easy way that won’t bore you to death.

As Helene Malmsio from Time Management in the Workplace website says “Ensure that you have a clear idea of what you need to accomplish in your working day and be realistic!

You will do yourself no favours by trying to complete a week’s worth of work in one day. All you will accomplish if you try this technique is a big ball of stress in your stomach and a head ache to go with it.”

Learning time management in the workplace is actually not difficult. It may take time but once you’ve mastered the necessary skills, you will feel less stressed and be able to work better.

Typical teenagers normally go through a stressful period due to certain life circumstances they are in. Apart from the pangs of growing-up due to physical and psychological changes that they have to face, there are a lot of concerns and pressures that they have to tackle, and there may be concrete reasons for them to be stressed about.

Experts say that teen stress management is not entirely about management alone. It ought to focus on love and mutual respect. If you are a parent, it all boils down to your response to one significant question – How much do I love my teen? If you do love your teen, you ought to know him/her, and if you know him/her, you should be able to understand him/her; therefore there is no need to manage anything, because, as people say, love will take care of the rest.

However, prior to discussing teen stress management, parents should be aware about the types of pressures that a normal teen is likely to encounter in society, First on the list is peer pressure- such as pressures to try out smoking, drinking and even drugs. Teens may also face pressure from problems related to their studies and school. Finally, some parents may not be aware that their teenager may already be experiencing stress due to issues within the family. The problems may be related to strained relations between parents or the family may be going through a crisis.

Parents who are struggling to contend with the issues of teen stress management ought to know that there’s a lot that they can do. They must be cognizant of the fact hat there are a lot of things that a teenager has to learn, and even if they don’t speak up, they look up to their parents for guidance and support.

First and foremost, parents need to understand the fact that their teen is born into a society which is quite different from the one they were born into. As such, the resolution of issues that their teen faces cannot be realized as long as they insist on seeing those issues from their own point of view. There is such a thing as “empathy” which parents must have these days. This means that they should try to understand and enter into their teen’s feelings. Without it, any advice would sound generic, authoritarian and trumped up.

The parental approach to teen stress management should rely upon family dynamics. The home should be a place where the teenager feels safe and secured. The home should be perceived by the teen as a place of refuge where there are people who understand and care about whatever it is that they are going through. Parents should value their relations with their teen and cherish it as something precious. Once parents earn the trust and respect of their teens, then everything would fall into their proper perspective.

Stress reducer? Easy to say… Bills to pay, children irritating you, shopping to be done, housework to do, boss pushing for work to be completed, partner asking for your help…. Not enough time!!! Does this looks familiar to you? Stress is forever with us controlling what we do and how we feel.

Stress is a matter of judgment. In becoming stressed, people must make two major judgments: first, they have to feel vulnerable by the situation, and second, they have to doubt that their capabilities and resources are sufficient to meet the risk. So, coping stress is all about stress management. There are some simple ways to manage stress.

Some types of stress are inevitable. Some stresses are the ones over which you do not have any control. More, some one may be the cause of your stress; there are some types of stress of which you are the cause, and for that reason you have to find its solution in order to achieve stress reducer.

No one likes to remain in a condition of stress. But the way of life in the modern civilization, throws many types of stresses, without your asking for it. Somehow, stress is forced upon you. At this point we find the importance of searching for ways to manage stress.

The causes provoking stress are incalculable. May be that it concerns your children, or the usual, unusual arguments with your partner. Stress is the cause of many heart attacks. Trying to avoid these kinds of situations will help us in stress reducer. How stressed somebody feels depends on how much damage they think the situation can do them, and how strongly their resources meet the difficulty of the situation. This sense of threat is rarely physical.

Generally, the level of your stress and the level of your heartbeat go hand in hand. The greater the beating, more intense is the level of the pressure. There are some simple ways to manage stress. Observe your distress and don’t ignore it. Be awake of your stressors and your emotional and physical reactions. Don’t gloss over your problems. Establish what events distress you. What are you telling yourself about meaning of these events? Find out how your body responds to the stress. In this way you already started to achieve stress reducer.

Another simple way to manage stress is to go to a spa. Spas are a wonderful way to relieve stress. Stressed out people are taking advantages of spas in huge numbers. More and more people are prioritizing spa visits, making salons and spas among the trendiest hangouts to date. Stress is one of the main causes of diseases and other sicknesses. It has been proven that the benefits of a spa experience are very effective in stress reducer.

Also stress balls have been proven to relieve stress. Lots of organizations are now giving out free stress balls to their employees. If you are working in an office environment, you have to get yourself a stress ball. Stress balls are proven as a strong stress reducer.

The above are just some simple ways to manage stress, simple to use but with huge advantages to make your life free of stress. Depends only of you to obtain it or not.

Stress is defined as any physical or emotional demand that you feel unable to handle. While some stress is a normal part of life, excessive stress interferes with your productivity and reduces your physical and emotional health, so it’s important to find ways to keep it under control. Parenting Stress is defined as those moments when life as a parent seems overwhelmingly unpredictable and uncontrollable. Parenting stress is important because it has been shown to be related to maltreatment and poor parent-child relationships. Parent stress is the single largest contributing factor to dismissive parenting and is also associated with a negative mood, which in turn may lead to parents’ negative attributions of children’s behaviour and to low tolerance of children’s misbehaviours As a result, Parent stress is a Kid’s Stress. Thus, understanding the precursors of parenting stress is important because of the potential implications for child development and adjustment, as well as parental adjustment.

One of the best ways to deal with stress: Find your stress sources and stay AWAY from them. Knowing what causes you stress is powerful information, as you can take action to make it less stressful. Some of the common causes of parent stress are:

Social Isolation: It’s not that parents don’t enjoy their children or their roles, but the emotional toll of parenting can be high, partially because parents today are often relatively socially isolated and don’t always have support from the community or even their extended family. Parenting stress is negatively significantly correlated to social support. Lack of someone to share with (especially in single parenting) can cause significant parent stress.

Self Neglect: Parenting stress is caused by us neglecting our own needs. Always putting yourself and your demands at the bottom of the list, would result in piling up of frustrations, which can cause significant stress. This could ultimately end up in complete neglect of your surroundings and even your children as your basic needs are not met.

Financial Difficulties: In difficult times like we face today, loss of job or excessive debt can cause stress especially if you have children to fend for. Even if you are not facing difficult times, parenting stress is strongly affected by the perception of financial hardship. A core feature of parenting stress is the idea of a balancing act between the parent’s perception of the demands of this role and access to available resources for meeting these demands.

Lack of regard for child’s feelings: It is not the need to set limits with children that causes problems; it is the repeated disregard for a child’s feelings and needs in favour of demanding obedience and compliance with parental requests which can stunt emotional intelligence and development. This is especially true in case of teenagers; where such strict approach can lead to rebellion and cause parent stress.

Since stress is unavoidable in life, it is important to find ways to decrease and prevent stressful incidents and decrease negative reactions to stress. Half of the parental stress can be reduced if parents only change their perception. Once you realize that life will not always go as planned, you can begin to reduce some of the stress that comes with being a mom or a dad. Some of the common ways in which you can effectively deal with parent stress are:

Managing time and organise yourself: Time management skills can allow you more time with your family and friends and possibly increase your performance and productivity. To improve your time management, save time by focusing and concentrating, delegating, and scheduling time for you. Breaking a big task into smaller one and prioritising the broken down tasks will in fact reduce the challenges involved in completing the tasks. This will keep you more focussed and you will be able to relax and take better care of your kids, rather than constantly worrying about the tasks at hand.

Eat well & exercise: Exercise is an important component stress management program. Regular exercise is one of the best stress reducers. Taking slow, deep breaths can help slow your heart rate and reduce tension. Regular exercise improves flexibility and also helps to lower blood pressure and cholesterol and is an excellent combination and part of your stress management campaign. Breathing exercises, walking, cycling, stretching exercises can help to reduce stress while, punching, kickboxing are most effective to relieve stress and also tension. A well-rested, exercised, healthy body is better prepared to reduce stress. Final

Do you work with a tornado? You know the kind of person who always seems surrounded by drama in their personal and professional lives? Any attempt by their colleagues to get them to change their ways falls on deaf ears. Can you see them heading for burnout in a couple of year’s time?

Research from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales found that 45 per cent of people questioned say they have suffered from stress, citing unattainable targets, poor management and bad work-life balance as the causes. Employees claim their work stress levels also affecting their home life, with half saying it impacted on their health and 41 per cent reporting it was detrimental to their social life. The expert highlights those in the financial sector as being renowned for being stressed.
Therefore employers have a duty of care to protect their staff. Staff who perform well become an asset not a burden.

Believe it or not some people actually love a crisis. In fact when things get too predictable they get bored! But how do you tackle someone who thrives under stress, but for whom this habit is beginning to damage their health and effectiveness?

Here are 10 Top Tips on how to recognise and cope with stress

1. Performance management and stress could be discussed at an annual Appraisal. An employee may not realise the impact stress could have on their performance. If their needs lie at the heart of their behaviour, this may subconsciously drive their choices and decisions. These needs may include a need to be in control, a need to be liked or a strong need for perfection, all of which could create scenarios with stressful outcomes.

2. Offer them one2One coaching or mentoring support, this will help them identify what behaviour or habits they need to change and what new approaches they can adopt. This could then be progressed through an action plan, reviewed periodically. A Personal Coach or Mentor will hold them accountable to take some action.

3. Recommend that they have a health check with their GP, and to start taking responsibility for their own stress management. Stress related illnesses are avoidable, and therefore a complete lifestyle assessment would be beneficial with the emphasis on reducing alcohol intake, eating a sensible diet, and avoidance of junk food.

4. Encourage them to delegate, prioritise and become personally more organised, e.g. by using a task list, setting realistic deadlines, proper diary and time management

5. Provide some opportunities for them to do some strategic planning and to allocate time for this in their schedule

6. Encourage them to learn some relaxation techniques, e.g. by taking up a relaxing hobby like fishing or Tai Chi. These will have a beneficial effect on their health by reducing stress hormones, lowering blood pressure, creating a happier state of mind leading to better sleep, more energy and resilience to stress.

7. Provide options for them to look into their own work-life balance, i.e. by not taking work home/on holiday and using technology to make this easier for them with remote working for instance

8. Discuss setting realistic goals and not to over commit themselves

9. Introduce some coaching techniques to help them pause and reflect on the consequences of their behaviour. They should be encouraged to adopt new ways of handling stressful situations, handling themselves in a crisis, and conflict management – perhaps by attending workshops focussed on emotional intelligence.

10. Help them to identify the warning signs of stress, i.e. binge eating or drinking, poor sleep patterns, aggressive behaviour, or stress related illnesses, e.g. migraine, eczema, IBS. The overall recommendation being that sensible stress management is a long term solution, which although it requires commitment provides a viable solution much more effective than the short-term solution, i.e. going sick and being put on medication.

Setting realistic expectations and identifying if your staff are under stress will save money and improve staff retention and morale in the longer term.

The chemistry in your body, in this case adrenalin and cortisol, follows closely on your thoughts, so closely that it is faster than you can blink your eyes, which takes all of 1/10th second.

The stress response, or DPA as Gottman calls it, will limit us to three behavioral options at its strongest, run for your life, flee for your life, or freeze, none of which are going to help your gracefully accept a gift of fruit cake from your aging Aunt this Christmas, although you may consider fruit cake to be a deadly threat.

The key to stress management then is not to eliminate stress but to learn management tools that allow you to steer your body like you steer your car, with lots of small changes.

If you think about how you drive, you are attending to a significant number or variables and adjusting the position of the vehicle on the road, accelerating, slowing, ect. constantly.

If we can do that with the inside of our body frequently, and adjust our thoughts and breathing, we can quickly manage a stress response.

How Quickly?

Ever heard of EEG biofeedback, or heart rate variability biofeedback?

EEG biofeedback is a tool which helps folks learn how to manage brainwaves which can cycle anywhere from around 4 cycles per second to 42 cycles per second.

Heart rate variability biofeedback can work at your pulse rate, which we will say is 70 beats per minute for the sake of discussion.

While not as fast as EEG Biofeedback, heart rate variability biofeedback is plenty fast for my stress management process, and since technology is so wonderful, I do have a program to recommend that you learn for very rapid stress management, literally heart beat by heart beat.

Earlier I mentioned John Gottman,Ph.D., who has done some amazing research about marriage, and about the masters of marriage.

He says the masters of marriage have developed the ability to recognize and soothe themselves when they are flooded, and Gottman’s recommended tool for that recognition is to take your pulse and if your pulse rate is over 100 beats per minute, then take a time out for 20 minutes.

The program I like for a quicker version of this recognition and choice process is a version of heart rate variability biofeedback.

Not only can I use heart rate variability biofeedback as a stress management antidote, I can practice it for joyful generativity.

I mean why not keep the inside of my body coherent, based on my heart rate coherence, until such time as someone swerves their car into my lane?

(That swerving cannot happen near me until I am actually driving, right)?

Stress Management or Joyful Generativity?

Lots of my anger management and domestic violence clients report that since they only get mad every so often, they are not in need of anger management or domestic violence services.

Most of us who are not suffering heart attacks routinely may look at stress management the same way, I only need to manage stress when the boogey man attacks.

I want to suggest that waiting to manage stress is deadly. I also want to suggest that if stress is optional, so is joy.

Since my feelings follow only my thoughts, not anything external, I see no reason not to generate some joy or contentment on a regular basis, say every five minutes, for two heart beats.

Instead of adrenalin and cortisol, and the jangley feeling, I can feel contentment and have a lot of DHEA flowing through my body, which is the anti aging hormone by the way, and all that joyful generativity comes from learning heart rate variability biofeedback, which is a really simple process.

In fact, if you are a business person, your entire staff should learn Heartmath, so staff meetings could have a coherent heart beat.

Ju
