Debt and Mental Health

The last year has been horrendous for those in debt. How many of you have considered the effect that this has had on the health of those in debt. Report after report has now highlighted the link between mental health problems and debt. It has been revealed that as many as half the population with mental health issues have debt problems.

It also seems that the more debts one has the worse the problem is likely to be. These problems usually stem from the lack of financial literacy or access to specialised debt help. Indeed it seems that the highest level of personal debt, is experienced by those with the greatest mental health problems.

Some good news exists in amongst all this doom in that it has also been surveyed that for those who took or take debt help, the instances of mental health then drop as the problems are removed.

As indicated above, the lack of access to debt solutions, contributes to the instances of health problems, and so if we can understand peoples problems, we can make available solutions to a debt problem, such as debt management plans or individual voluntary arrangements.

By taking a client through a debt management programme we can remove the causes of anxiety such as debt collection calls or choices as to who to pay with available income. The plan will allocate the disposable income each month and as long as one simple payment is made into the plan, the debtor will remain untroubled in more ways that one.

Help With Debt Uk has made it an objective to help those with health issues access the same services and solutions as everybody else. So as well as DM plans we will offer where suitable, IVA’s or even bankruptcy.

Where health has intervened to such an extent that work is impossible, and the debt level is simply not serviceable, then bankruptcy is a very good alternative and we have walked many people through the process, which has resulted in significant improvement in the levels of stress.

Debt and health issues combine to produce the following problems, and so if you notice any of these symptoms, please contact us.
